The popular bus service Free Rides Everywhere Downtown---best known by its acronym FRED---started up again this week and runs until October 23, offering transportation seven-days-a-week from 10:30am to 5:30pm for locals and tourists courtesy of the Downtown Halifax Business Commission and Metro Transit. Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but wouldn’t it be great if this ran all year round? There might be fewer tourists in town but we’d sure be glad to see FRED on a blisteringly cold day in February. Just sayin’. (Oh, and speaking of Metro Transit, the fares went up July 1. It will now cost you $2.25 per ride on the buses, and an adult monthly metro pass is now $70.)
