When Aneesh Chhabra proposed to Sindura Dar it was a leap of faith - literally. Poised to dive out of a private plane, he asked her to answer him back on the ground, giving Sindura a lot to think about as she parachuted down. “At first, I thought Aneesh was joking because he is a clown most of the time,” she says, but when she landed (as gracefully as possible), he was waiting for her on one knee. From there, the vision was soft colours, lots of flowers and flowing fabrics that would make a beautiful backdrop for bringing together her Kashmir-Bangladeshi background with his Punjabi ancestry. “All three places encompass their own cultural customs and traditions,” says Sindura, “and almost everything has meaning behind it.” The Friday before the wedding, they fused three sets of customs into “a hodgepodge event involving turmeric, music, food and lots of dancing” that would not be outdone by the day itself. Aneesh arrived on a white horse with his family, in a tradition called the Baraat; took part in a garland exchange and had the Posh Puja - a flower blessing where guests shower the couple with petals. With the help of Elegant Productions and special DIY details like the watercolour invitations made by the bride’s mother, the fusion wedding was breathtaking. “During my speech at the reception, I looked out into a sea of familiar and smiling faces and realized that the entire room had put their lives on hold to come celebrate with us,” she says. “You could feel the love. It was overwhelming.” ❱❱
