For most adults, childhood as seen through the rearview mirror is all puppies, popsicles and birthday parties. But the genius of Charles Schultz and his Peanuts comic strip was that he remembered and communicated just how tough being a kid can be. The musical version of his work requires adult actors to channel their inner angsty children, and the six performers in the Chester production do this admirably. Cliff LeJeune is lovely as the world-weary but always optimistic Charlie Brown. Ann Doyle does a formidable (yet vulnerable) Lucy and Anna Hurshman is absolutely adorable as Sally. Troy Adams (and his do-rag ears) brings Snoopy fully to life. Rounding out the great cast are Simon Gordon as the philosopher Linus and Avery Brennan as Lucy’s beleaguered love interest Schroeder. With its clever music and choreography and upbeat pace this show will appeal to children---both young and old. –Kate Watson
