York Redoubt

York Redoubt (Noyes/ Hot Money)

If York Redoubt's main vision was to make noise, they've succeeded. But there's more than just noise here: heavy distortion and feedback play into a math-rock, post-punk aesthetic. Recorded partly in an abandoned schoolhouse, warping floorboards and haunted basements seem completely in line with the music. Arty, weighty but still accessible, the different elements of the record balance each other out nicely, from the pop of "I Said Slightly" to the frantic guitars of "Division," with heavy blasts of noise shoved in everywhere for good measure. Expect the quasi-haunting sound to be found in your local record store and coffee shop haunts.

Survey Asks

Should council use the yet-to-be-finalized Centre Plan when debating new developments?

  • No, it doesn’t exist yet and is still likely to change
  • Yes, thousands of hours of work and consultation have gone into what’s already assembled
  • Maybe, it really depends on what’s being proposed by the developer
  • I don’t know what the Centre Plan is and do not wish to participate in this poll
