The death of any young person is profoundly sad. When that death is surrounded by allegations of gang rape and the spreading of pictures of the event via social media, coupled with a questionable police investigation and misogynistic commentary in the media, that sadness turns to outrage. By any reckoning, the death Rehtaeh Parsons is a horrible tragedy, but perhaps her death will cause us to question the foundational sexism in our society and, maybe, shift the culture a bit.
