Winter wonderland

I think it's absolutely wonderful that the HRM has begun issuing winter ban parking tickets, particularly on a rainy Sunday evening---the first night of the ban ---when no snow removal efforts were underway. I was under the impression that the ban began on December 15, as were most people I had spoken with regarding this oh-so-sensible and much-loved Halifax tradition, because the ban is always so well-advertised in advance of coming into effect.

It's great to see that city officals, who have probably been rubbing their hands together for the last week, made sure that things got underway on time---which is more than I can say for their ability to actually get roads cleared in the event that it actually does happen to snow.

I was overjoyed to find a $50 ticket on my windshield this morning, and on the windshield of my girlfriend's car, who was visiting from out of town. Truly, a more bald-faced and blatant cash grab has never existed. It's something that Halifax should be proud of.

I would like to personally thank the HRM for taking an additional $50 out of my pocket just prior to Christmas. I really appreciate it. The winter parking ban is truly a sensible and compassionate service to residents of this wonderfully backward city, and I believe I speak for everyone when I say that we're all quite happy to have it back. Another reason to love winter. —Neal Durling, Halifax
