Wendie L. Poitras was born into one of the many Black indigenous families living throughout Nova Scotia. Her ancestral style of artistic expression is derived from an Africentric perspective on life; thus, most of her pieces have an ‘interconnected’ theme. This‘interconnectedness’ is a vital attribute in many of the African Nova Scotian communities around the province. You will also find the artist’s work embodies a feminine consciousness which inspires the flow of each and every line. Wendie’s works are symbolic and interpretive in nature.
