Welcome to Brussels

Those folks at Hamachi are at it again –the latest restaurant endeavour includes a little taste of Europe, Brussels Restaurant and Brasserie (1873 Granville). Owned and operated by Boris Mirtchev and Ken Greer, Brussels opened its doors just under two weeks ago. Inspired by the central point of European culture, the restaurant features an extensive mural of Grand Place, the central market square of Brussels' city landscape.

Not to mention a replica of the famous landmark Manneken Pis (Dutch for little man pee), a bronze fountain sculpture that depicts a naked little boy urinating into the fountain's basin. Anyone else find this odd dining atmosphere?

"We wanted to bring a little taste of Europe without the airfare," says Mirtchev. "We serve authentic Belgium cuisine, which is a cross between English, French and German. We all different sorts of mussels cooked in various sauces. Entrée's cooked in different types of beer, French fries –which claims to have originated in Belgium---we have over 60 types of beers available."

Whether your mouth waters for huitres gratinees au biere (fresh oysters topped with gruyere and swiss cheese, baked until golden brown), po pei (mussels with spinach and bacon), waterzooi van kip (Belgium chicken stew with vegetables, according to legend the king's favourite) or a gigantic platter for sharing called antwerp (a mixture of grilled fresh meats and fries), there is something for everyone.

"We wanted the restaurant to be similar to dining in Brussels so there are platters for sharing, incredibly knowledgeable staff and unique flavours and flair. All menu items can be changed and created to a person's particular taste as well."
