To the editor,
I'd like to encourage you to write an article about The Rolling Stones. I feel that people would be wise to boycott the concert for the following reasons:
1. The Stones are irrelevant. No new music of significance since the '80s. They were cool. Emphasis on "were."
2. The Stones are for people who have frozen their music tastes. There are so many good bands, good singer/songwriters, performers out there that really deserve support.
3. The Stones have no discernible social conscience. Can you name one cause the Stones support with their time and energy?
4. The Stones embody the excesses of the '70s and '80s. What does it say about our culture now that we still idolize them?
5. With a few notable exceptions, generally groups on the way up or, in this case, on the way down come here, sad but true. Remember Meatloaf at that bar in Dartmouth? This is the same, with a higher cover charge.
6. After the Stones fleece Halifax for all they can take, there will be less music and entertainment money left for the local scene. We're a small demographic with limited resources. Local music groups, artists, entertainers, non-profits and charities will collectively feel the impact. Ultimately, the result of the concert is that the rich get richer and the poor go nowhere.
7. They use teleprompters!
8. They are a corporation, not a band. Pet clothes with the Stones logo? Give me a break! People are starving in the world.
