To the editor,
At a recent all-candidates debate in a local riding, the Tory candidate kept stressing that the local inhabitants should vote for him if they wanted to be heard at the cabinet table and have favourable decisions. This is an immoral and pathetic example of the old style patronage politics practiced by the Grits and Tories in Nova Scotia for the past 200 years. To blackmail your constituents by saying that no matter how needy, infirm and aged you are, "you don't count unless you vote for me"—needs to be banished from politics. I guess the parties haven't learned what democracy means.
