Viva Italia on Agricola

Italian Weekend heats up the north end with food, games and music.

Venice looks like Halifax, right?
Venice looks like Halifax, right?

Okay, close your eyes and picture north end Halifax as Italy. You're drinking a bottle of Chianti, walking the narrow cobblestone streets, the smell of fresh focaccia wafting through the air...alright, so it's a stretch. This weekend, though, is the closest Halifax gets to being Italy. The annual Italian Weekend (put on by the Italian Canadian Cultural Association) has been running for over twenty years, welcoming thousands of people to do what Italians do best: indulge. Bring your wallet, and an empty stomach, and start by snacking on as much authentic Italian food as you can, and if you're of age, wash it down by joining in on a wine appreciation seminar (only offered during the festival). Food and drinks aside, there'll also be Italian music, dancing, indoor bocce, prizes, classic Italian cars and face painting. And while the ICCA keeps that taste of Italy going year round, this is your chance to get the scoop on their language, cooking and wood-carving classes.

Fri Sep 9 (5-11pm), Sat Sep 10 (11am-11pm), Sun Sep 11 (11am-5pm)

Italian Cultural Centre, 2629 Agricola Street, 453-5327, $2 entry fee
