UPREP — Saint Mary’s University Preparation: Helping you fulfill your educational dreams

Do you have your sights set on going to university?  Do you want to bolster your educational qualifications to meet university admission requirements?  Saint Mary's University is committed to lifelong learning, welcoming individuals looking for opportunities to connect with university and pursue their goals of academic success.

The Studio for Teaching and Learning is home to University Preparation courses (UPrep) at Saint Mary's.  UPrep creates pathways to university admission.

Two years ago, at the age of 21, Ryan Ivany decided to leave his profession as a plumber, and fulfill his career goal. Ivany had always aspired to attend veterinary school and enter the field of zoology: Now he decided it was time to get on this career path. To take this direction, Ivany required further high school courses to be admitted to a university science program. Ivany enrolled in Saint Mary's UPrep program and that was the beginning of realizing his dream.

"I wanted to change my life for the better and work towards a career that I had always hoped for but I knew I needed high school science courses required for admission," he says. Over the course of one year, Ivany completed four UPrep courses and in turn, met the requirements to apply to the Faculty of Science undergraduate program at Saint Mary's University.

"The knowledge and experience I gained from the UPrep courses created a solid foundation to build on when starting my first semester in the science program," Ivany says. He has entered his second semester of studies and he attributes his success to his time in UPrep. "Uprep also helped me transition back to school, so I was better prepared when I started my science degree." With the support of Saint Mary's UPrep program instructors and encouragement from his friends and family, Ivany is on track to making his dream come true.
