Université Sainte-Anne: Immerse yourself

Nathalie Landry makes leaps in her French language skills with a Sainte-Anne immersion

Nathalie Landry spent five weeks in the summer immersed in the French language. Even though she had been speaking French since kindergarten, nothing compared to this.

She woke up to immersion classes, and spoke French during the activities throughout the day—even in the cafeteria. By the end, Nathalie wanted more, and Université Sainte-Anne provided it.

"How will you learn if you are constantly speaking English?" Nathalie asked herself. Nobody else offered a program where she would be completely surrounded by the language. She was given an entrance bursary, and an environment where she would be free to make mistakes and to brush up on her grammar skills.

"Even after all this time with French, I still didn't feel comfortable speaking it. This program gave me more confidence orally, to write in French, and to eventually teach French to others as well," says Nathalie about her aspirations to become a French teacher.

Nathalie is currently participating in the intermediate level program at Sainte-Anne, which will be completed in a year, and the more advanced program runs only through December. There are five courses total in French, leaving room for optional courses as an addition.

"If you are unsure of your abilities, this is the extra work that will help you in the long run. The program helps you in regular classes, plus it looks great on your resume," says Nathalie.
