Twilight Hotel

When the Wolves Go Blind (independent)

Their third album finds the duo of Brandy Zdan and Dave Quanbury with more miles travelled for their dark characters. On “Mahogany Veneer,” the shared road trips enhance all experience. There’s nothing like boarded-up buildings in a place like Memphis to break the spell of its history. Home is Winterpeg…I mean, Winnipeg. On “Frozen Town,” it’s easy to visualize Zdan’s breath fogging around her vocals. “Darkness” could be a soundtrack for cabin fever, Quanbury’s guitar puncturing the silence like a crow on roadkill. Hearing When the Wolves Go Blind in the summer would make you feel strange, or at least wistful over a cold snap.
