Turnstile Pottery | Shoptalk | Halifax, Nova Scotia | THE COAST

The Turnstile Pottery Co-operative (once found at 2207 Gottingen) has settled into a new home at 2733 Agricola (formerly Sassy’s Antique Market, which closed in December). “It’s really exciting,” says co-op member Wendy Shirran. “We were very hesitant to leave where we were, and certainly that was kind of forced upon us,” Shirran adds about the co-op’s eviction from their old digs. But the Agricola community has been supportive and lots of Turnstile regulars have helped with the move, she says. “Now more than ever, we know that we have a lot of support from our community.” The co-op spent the last couple months setting up shop---recycling what it could from the old building and re-assembling its kiln. They’ve also had to make some adjustments: their rent is higher now. “We really had to sit down...and figure out how we were going to truly sustain the place,” says Shirran. This comes with good news, though: Turnstile will soon be open longer yet-to-be-announced storefront hours, which means more opportunities during the week to check out and purchase the co-op’s wares. It’ll be offering more classes, too (starting Feb. 15). Call 431-CLAY for info; join Turnstile for a grand re-opening and eighth birthday celebration on March 1.
