Turbine Showcase

Lisa Drader-Murphy is no stranger to celebrity. Having started her clothing company, Turbine, in Calgary in 1997 and nurturing it to 22 employees and three stores by the time she relocated and restarted in Falmouth, NS, the talented designer is a local one herself. But that doesn't mean she can't be star-struck. At the Toronto International Film Festival gifting suite, she met Michael Sucsy, director of HBO's *Grey Gardens* remake. "I was such a fan of that movie that I had designed a dress called the Little Edie." She told Sucsy of her design, and after jumping up and down with excitement he took one to give his sister. Back at her Falmouth studio now, Drader-Murphy and her employees are working hard to get her fall line ready for Friday's showcase and fundraiser, an annual gala that celebrates 10 years for Turbine. It starts at the 7pm opening reception, with food from George & Litos and drinks from Grand Pre Wines. At 8pm expect to move into the gorgeous main section of Saint Patrick's church, to see a show of 14 Turbine collections to a playlist of 14 original songs performed by Ryan MacGrath and The Caravan. Jeremy Webb and Eva Hoare will host, and the models you'll see are a mix of local professionals, long-term clients and local celebrities---including Nancy Reagan, who hosted the first Turbine showcase. Proceeds go to Amanda's Gift. –Holly Gordon
