Touring Green - Blog 30: Moosomin to Brandon (June 20)

When It Rains, It Pours

So, today was an adventure as I popped my first tube today (which was quickly followed by the popping of my second tube).

I knew this day would come. In fact, I bartered, in my head, during the mountains, saying "please, don't pop a tube until at least the prairies". But, was I ready for it? I changed the tube and pumped up the new one and was pretty proud that I had accomplished this simple, but yet foreign, task. Unfortunately, I didn't check to see if the thing that popped my tube was still embedded in the tire itself and so I popped the back-up tube in the process.

Now, on the hi-way with no tube for my trailer, I was lucky enough to get offered a ride from a guy working construction who said, when I thanked him, "you know, I'm working by the hour like everyone else" (and made a motion that he had time to spare).

I got one of my tubes patched up in town (unfortunately not completely though as, for the next few days until Winnipeg, I had to pump the tire up every couple hours).

Despite the set backs of the day (this breakdown plus the time change made it quite a late day on the road!), I remained in good spirits listening to the wonderful sounds of The Hylozoists all day and, when "Straight Is The Gate" climaxed, so did the sky, as I looked up for the first time in what seemed all day and saw, for the first time, a swirling cloud above me.

Luckily, the swirling clouds didn't muster into anything crazy (for a whole 12 more hours!) as F2-F4 tornadoes began to hit Manitoba all around me. The worst being: Elie
