Touring Green - Blog 26: Saskatoon to Craik (June 16)

Wind Is Like An Invisible Mountain

So today I understood how much it can suck to have the wind directly aimed at you all day. The speedometer, which, if you remember, broke in Borden, could not tell me my exact speed but, I figured, I was going about half the speed I normally bike at because of the wind.

Today marked the start of psychologically and physically some of the hardest times on the bike. All the while, I was regretting not taking the offer from the kind guys in In-Flight Safety to hitch a ride with them from Saskatoon to Regina; I also could have rested another day in Saskatoon and seen their show at Amigo's (which was the night after mine).

The thing about biking for 9hrs into the wind is you never know when it's gonna let up and, when you're in the middle of the prairies without a map, phone, speedometer, bike repair gear, etc. you start to get a little worried about not only being slow to get to your destination but not making your destination at all and being stuck in the dark in the middle of nowhere.

Here's the video capturing this said thought:

"Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting. So… get on your way!" - Dr. Seuss
