Tour Tech East looks to expand

Local film studio needs $1 million to move into former factory space

The Dartmouth-based production company Tour Tech East is asking the provincial government for a $1 million grant to help transform an adjacent furniture factory into television and movie studios. According to the CBC, Tour Tech East’s owner Peter Hendrickson feels that expanding its existing two studios to seven will help the local economy in job creation and earning tax dollars. It will also help boost activity within the province’s film industry, which receives annual contributions of $15 to $25 million from the province.

Hendrickson bought the factory for $3.5 million after Scanwood Canada Inc., a company that made dressers exclusively for international retail giant IKEA, went bankrupt last year. Renovations on the factory will likely cost $2 million, half of which will be covered by Tour Tech East if they receive the government support they're hoping to get.
