If you think that a book about t-shirts, much less a book about a t-shirt company, is a lame idea, then obviously you haven’t pulled out a credit card on threadless.com, where fans vote on which designs are produced. Nickell keeps the company’s history and Harvard Business School case-study success to a few short essays, wisely focusing on the selected t-shirts for each year, including former Haligonian Ray Fenwick’s scrolling “Hi” from 2007. Although hours can be spent browsing threadless.com, there’s something about a glossy art book that gives the designs more weight, as you can linger over the details, the colours and the humour of each tee.
