The apocalypse is as good a time as any for a crew of vapid actors to deal with their issues in This Is The End. Featuring a slew of Apatow-regulars (Apatownies?), TITE features the end of the earth raining down upon California. That such devastation (and the rapturing of good souls to Heaven) is entirely unnoticed by the hordes of shallow freaks at James Franco's housewarming party is a nicely understated joke. After Rihanna and a coked up Michael Cera, (among others) are killed, Franco, Seth Rogan, Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill and Craig Robinson batten down the hatches and pray for rescue. An absurdist satire, with plenty of in-jokes about the crew's past films and public personas, This Is The End hopes its gang of loveable actors facing weird situations is funny enough to make up for a lack of any real story besides its high concept. Luckily, they're mostly right. —Jacob Boon
