Beauty in nature inspires designer Theresa Lee Capell (AKA Miss Foxine)

  • Jennifer Murphy

Theresa Lee Capell's work is all about beauty found in nature. Capell (AKA Miss Foxine) grew up with a strong sense of adventure and a keen desire to create magical things. Influenced by "fairytales and whimsicality and the magic of the world around us—things that people seem to forget," Capell's business took off when people took notice of her talent, and started to commission pieces. This year, she displayed work at a gifting suite at the Golden Globe Awards. Capell is not just driven by the power of nature—she actually incorporates it in her creations, collecting birch bark from her original home in Annapolis Valley and using butterfly wings sent to her from a conservatory after the insects die naturally. In the future, she would like to branch out from her Halifax Seaport Market stall to open boutiques in Halifax and Los Angeles. Capell tells aspiring fashion designers to "keep practicing, keep designing, keep drawing. Make as much as you can. I try to have as much fun creating my work as I can. Each piece I make is one of a kind, so whoever wears that certain piece is really crafting her story with it."
