The Whistleblower outrages (as it should)

Larysa Kondracki’s picture has all the passion of a first-time feature filmmaker and screenwriter. Based on actual events, it tells the tale of Kathy Bolkovac, a Nebraska law enforcer working for an American military contractor in Bosnia who uncovers sex trafficking rings, implicating many of the men with whom she works. As Bolkovac, Rachel Weisz does sterling work, channeling a real-life Clarice Starling who struggles in against the industrial complex, offering whatever support she can to collateral victims of war. As an issue-driven thriller it should, and does, outrage. If it stumbles in places where expositional dialogue rings tinny, The Whistleblower wins due to Weisz’s performance and a relentless conviction in the storytelling.
