The Trews

The Trews (e-one)

thetrews.jpg

As it's the first full album in three years from this Antigonish foursome, the eponymous title implies a hope to reach many new ears. "Transcendental disarray" describes the mess awaiting the "Age of Miracles" and its mix of faith, science and faith in science. The dynamic vocals of Colin MacDonald, briefly relieved by a harmonic bridge, make it a standout. You may find the pace and pitch somewhat relentless through the album's first half. Serena Ryder guests on the slowest, "In the Morning," her rasp blending well with MacDonald's. "Living the Dream" evokes many a power ballad, "New King" some gnarly Zeppelin, as The Trews pay their classic-rock dues.
