The Roommate is nothing to be afraid of

Even a crazy-jealous Leighton Meester fails to frighten.

This update of Single White Female is like a catfight between two declawed kittens – bloodless and not frightening in the least. Minka Kelly is Sara, a fresh-faced fashion student whose transition into university life gets complicated by roommate Rebecca (Leighton Meester), who happens to be majoring in crazy. In Rebecca’s warped mind, BFFs are meant to be completely exclusive, so she starts threatening, blackmailing and slashing away at Sara’s friends, enemies and lovers. Rebecca’s instability is obvious right from the beginning, so there’s little in the way of suspense, and for the most part her attempts to terrorize her victims aren’t much above the level of bitchy, mean-spirited pranks. Tepid and predictable, The Roommate is the kind of thriller one can easily live without.

The Roommate is not showing in any theaters in the area.
