The Revenger's Tragedy

The last time I saw actor Matt Peach, he was strutting his stuff in towering heels and skin tight pants in the sexy, savage The Obedients. I loved his performance there, but I’d have to say he’s even better in Vile Passeist Theatre’s production of Thomas Middleton’s The Revenger’s Tragedy, where he turns in a nuanced yet slightly campy performance as the play’s kohl-eyed anti-hero. And he is matched by and large by an equally talented and charismatic cast. It took a few minutes to wrap my head around the Shakespearean language and labyrinthine plot of this play, but once I had, I was riveted by the dark and blood-thirsty machinations, which are served up with a healthy dose of humour. Add to that the creative and effective staging and eye-popping costumes, and you have theatre that deserves to be seen. –Kate Watson
