The Music

Welcome to the North

Published November 25, 2004.The MusicWelcome to the North(Capitol) The Music make that fatal mistake of thinking that taking something really annoying and doing it really loud will make it good. Nope. The band have thus far gotten by on the fact that they are drawing on two camps of nostalgia: Stone Roses fans and Led Zeppelin junkies. And while their dance-y hard rock music does at times draw on either band, the group’s few flashes of talent are overshadowed by cluttered song writing and relentlessly screechy vocals. Overall, the band just doesn’t sound interesting and comes off overdone. We’ve got two words for you: Kula Shaker.—Matt Charlton
