The Girl with a Clock for a Heart

by Peter Swanson (William Morrow)

The Girl with a Clock for a Heart is an intense debut thriller from Peter Swanson, in which George's comfortable, ordinary life is upheaved by the return of Liana, his college girlfriend and first love, 20 years later. Liana needs George's help and in spite of all the reasons he has not to trust her, he still can't say no---a decision that plunges him into a world of secrets, false identities and murder. Liana is a femme fatale and George is her perfect victim, but together they are just so much fun to read about. Swanson's characters are expected but there are plenty of plot twists that aren't. Although I loved the lead up, the ending itself was not entirely satisfying. However, clear and fluid writing and an exciting plot means that anyone looking for a riveting mystery can easily devour The Girl with a Clock for a Heart.
