The Friend and The Jerk

Dangerously funny duo

The opening show of any play presents the possibility of problems and unfortunately for The Friend and the Jerk, sketch comedy became improv as technical mishaps threatened to overshadow two strong acting performances. Sean Jordan (also known in hip-hop circles as the Wordburglar) and Mike Holmes kicked things off with a hilarious opening dialogue mixed with video and successfully delivered several different comedy skits from song-dance-cartoon number RAT Force, the dysfunctional buddy spoof Two-Man Baseball, Jordan’s one-man Revenge Remembering commercial recalling Tom Cruise’s turn in Magnolia, and even a video blooper reel. Jordan and Holmes hit the mark often, but long musical interludes between sketches due to no backstage lighting and a late start resulting in an abrupt finish did no service to their comedic momentum. Not lacking any creative energy, The Friend and the Jerk will no doubt benefit from multiple performances to work out the kinks. Seen on Sept. 1
