The Exploding Hearts

Shattered

The Exploding Hearts
Shattered
(Dirtnap)
The roads of rock are lined with many a tragedy, not least with with the Portland, Oregon, band The Exploding Hearts. The band released Guitar Romantic, hit the road and generated a buzz. In 2003, driving home from a show, three members died in a car accident. Shattered is an expanded re-issue of the band’s only CD (original songs, alternate versions/mixes and a live video of their last show). It is a combination of garage rock/ pop-punk with a nod to The Clash, The Buzzcocks and late ’70s post-punk (“I’m a Pretender” is more akin to Graham Parker-esque pub-rock). A fine release, even if only to show us what could have been.
