The expert shopper’s list | Shoptalk | Halifax, Nova Scotia | THE COAST

Sherry Lynn Jollymore is a Halifax designer. With her label, Fancy Pants (fancy-pantsdesigns.com) she upcycles vintage clothing, reimagining jackets and shirts by applying stenciled rock-related imagery. She went to NSCAD but never finished, though that doesn’t seem to have hurt her career at all. She’s also a veteran of the local retail clothing scene, having worked at the late, great Junk & Foibles and she’s a founder (no pun intended) of Lost & Found. Here’s where her coins will be spent this holiday season.

Argyle Fine Art - Historic Properties, 1869 Upper Water Street, 425-9456

“They always have new artists in for Christmas. They carry Tara Campbell, I really like her stuff. She creates images on glass, ceramic jewellery and dominoes.”

Lady Luck Boutique - 5519 Young Street, 444-3050

“They have all local and Canadian designers. I love their store. I think they have really good taste.”

Seeds Gallery - 1892 Hollis Street, 494-8301

“I love that they have a cross-section of affordable art, pottery and hand-made things. They have Kyle Monchuk’s work, which is amazing.”

The Salvation Army - 5280 Green Street, 425-7684

“I want to recommend second-hand stores, and the Salvation Army is great. There’s enough shit in the world and there’s no reason you can’t get something second hand that’s perfectly good.”

Lost & Found - 2383 Agricola Street, 446-5986

“They’ve got a great local art show up there right now. I like the rings---by Caitlyn Purcell---that look like mountains. And Divorce Records is in there too. And they’ll be carrying my stuff before Christmas!”
