Ex-Silverchair whiner Daniel Johns has finally moved away from the angsty grunge and has teamed up with Australian techno phenom Paul Mac to assemble The Dissociatives. The leadoff track “We’re Much Preferred Customers” resembles a pompous knock-off of Radiohead's Kid A, but is not at all representative of the album. The remainder of the disc is a bombastic pile of pop wankery, devoid of any of the musical genius that Johns and Mac have each demonstrated earlier in their respective careers. Written and recorded in less than two weeks, their obvious lack of effort is painfully evident, and the songs ultimately should (and probably will) be re-packaged for Johns’ wife, banal pop princess Natalie Imbruglia.
