The Darkness

Permission to Land

Published October 16, 2003.The DarknessPermission to Land(Atlantic)Watching The Darkness play its London, England hometown, you get the joke (if it’s a joke) immediately. Lead singer/guitarist Justin Hawkins struts and screams in a pair of shaggy mukluks, begging comparisons from Frampton to David Lee Roth, and when he is carried mid-song into the crowd on a groupie’s shoulders, you’re one of the fans going wild. Can the rock schtick translate to CD? Overflowing with hooks, licks and chicks, the disc answers with a firm awww yeah. —Kyle Shaw
