The conversation continues

To the editor,

I'm extremely saddened, as I skim through the many posts at, about increased violence in the HRM.

I grew up in Halifax, and like many left in my late teens to attend university. Since completing my studies, I've lived overseas in a very dangerous city. Offices and homes are tucked behind barbed wire and electric fencing, after 7pm police checks sprout across the roads, and Canada's murder rate can be matched in two bloody weekends here.

Trust me, Halifax, this is not what you want for yourself.

Please, swab the proximal causes and the dig to the roots of the problem. Whatever it takes to address the complex drivers of violence and changing nature of our expanding metropolis, do it. It is worth it.
