The Caretakers

Love, War & Propaganda (Quorum)

A visionary warning about the escalating military economy from President Eisenhower came at the end of his second term. The old general sounds pretty wise now. As a backdrop to the music on the Caretakers’ “Love is Lost,” it leaves a lasting impression. Then there’s “On Becoming Noam Chomsky”, comparing the tireless dissenter to Socrates. Jeffrey C. Martin and Lena Montecalvo are a pair of Toronto white-collar types expressing idealism through words that sometimes don’t mesh that melodically, with the ear and guitar of Mike Trebilcock (Killjoys) along to keep things rocking. It’s perfect for that post-peace march bash, or annoying the One Percent.
