The Captive Rain Forest

Ford Doolittle photograph
Ford Doolittle recently visited the Biosphere 2, an enclosure in Arizona which set out in the early '90s to prove it's possible for plants to completely self-contain in a three-acre enclosure. Here, the results are shared—but believe they aren't just any collection of vacation snaps: "Now the site of research and a tourist destination, [the] 20,000 square foot rain forest biome looks very much like it is trying to escape from the enclosing glass, unaware that it would soon perish in the surrounding Sonoran Desert." Doolittle's artist's statement says. "I took many pictures of leaves desperately plastered against the windows and will show some of them.
