The Buttless Chaps

Love This Time

Published February 05, 2004.The Buttless Chaps Love This Time(Mint) The Buttless Chaps have come a long way since the band’s early, tumbleweed porch-song days. And while they haven’t abandoned the lonely country twang completely, the Chaps have discovered krautrock and Devo and a certain perverse joy of pitting a synthesizer head-to-head with banjos and acoustic guitars. It’s truly an odd—yet strangely successful—formula for most tastes. Collaborators on Love This Time include a veritable west coast who’s who, including Carolyn Mark, guitar sensation Jesse Zubot and Radiogram’s Ida Nilsen. If you are only familiar with the band’s early material, this may come as a huge culture shock. —Dave Hayden categories: Canadian artist
