The Belle Comedians

Charlotte (Nettwerk)

With that tone of lament that turns up these days in male groups from Kings of Leon to Mumford and Sons, this quintet from Fredericton could blend in with some very popular acts. The album and song titles are six different women’s names, like a triage tent in the love wars. Loads of hooks help “Rosy” stand out, along with the line “Lucky enough to survive but it don’t feel right.” Organ churns through “Margaret” and a muscular guitar backs “Bess.” Each track has an inclination to build upon what precedes it. Charlotte is a good thing in a small package that bears repeating easily.
