The Golden Girls thanked you for being a friend from 1985 to 1992. The Body Shop celebrated last weekend’s International Friendship Day (August 3) by launching their “For Me, For You” shea butter lip care two-packs. The special edition, preservative-free balm retails for $15. Approximately $9, which is all proceeds, from each sale goes directly to the Canadian Women's Foundation in support of their efforts to help women and children involved in domestic violence.
The "For Me, For You" Shea Lip Care Duo launched late last month on July 28th,” says Laura Regu, The Body Shop’s public relations specialist. “But we wanted the launch to coincide closely with International Friendship Day because this year's campaign is based on the theme of friendship because research shows that as many of 67% of Canadian women would confide in a friend rather than family or police if she was subjected to violence.”
In Nova Scotia, the purchase of a Lip Care Duo will help support violence prevention initiatives at organizations like Alice Housing. With the help of the Canadian Women's Foundation, Alice Housing runs a program called Straight Talk for children in shelters who have witnessed abuse. The program offers one-on-one counselling for children and mothers (separately), intervention and other support. The program also provides weekly workshops that explore topics such as safe internet use and healthy relationships. For further information check out www.thebodyshop.ca
