Ten colourful weekend picks

From the Africa Festival of Arts & Culture to the kickoff of Pride week (including the parade!), here's the picks you can't miss.

Craft Nova Scotia's annual designer show
Friday // Saturday // Sunday
Everything from ceramics to textiles to some handmade bling await at this sprawling outdoor craft show full of expert makers.

Dîner en Blanc
This super-secret fancy-pants international community picnic didn’t happen last summer, but it’s back. Conceived in France, Diner en Blanc is a chic mass picnic, meant to celebrate public spaces, where you dress in all white, bring your own food and are ushered to a mystery location to eat with hundreds of other Haligonians.

CKDU beer and vinyl party
CKDU radio is throwing a party and you're invited! Sip some suds and request your favourite vinyl for a chill end to your weekend.

Opera Backwards: A very queer show
Halifax Summer Opera Festival and Pride come together for the annual musical theatre show with a twist: Gay and lesbian stories told through the great arias and duets of opera.

Ghettosock's big birthday bash
A totally-stacked bill of local rappers and DJs gather to send a birthday salute to one of Hali's biggest names in hip hop.

Konyon Cash x KinG WiiZ
Liberia has gifted this city Konyon Cash and KinG WiiZ, the rapping, dancing, beat making duo who have performed all over the world but call Haliwood home. Catch their hotter-than-fire sound at this all-ages show, and wear you dancing shoes.

TWRP w/The Brood
TWRP was from here and now the futuristic quartet tours the world in suitably bizarre outfits. It's comedy, it's a dance party, it's a spectacle.

Africa Festival of arts and culture
Friday // Saturday // Sunday
The annual festival of visual, performance and musical arts returns! Daily drumming workshops, art exhibits and authentic eats await. >>

The Bump
An epic drag celebration and dance party helmed by Katya from RuPaul's Drag Race makes for a marquee moment at Halifax Pride.

Halifax Pride Parade
Cutting a rainbow-bright swath through downtown, this year's parade will be even bigger because of a certain Cool Dad From Ottawa joining the walk. Get there early for prime selfie positioning. Not into Trudeau (or boycotting Pride)? South House has a 2SLGBTQ+ closed-space full of crafts and board games instead.
