SuperNova: One Man Lord of the Rings

One man. One ring. One terrific show.

Charles Ross is a self-described sweaty nerd, but I only agree with the sweaty part. His intimate knowledge of nerd classics like Lord of the Rings and Star Wars makes him a theatrical power house and not a basement-dwelling loner. However, he comes by the sweaty part honestly—bringing to life the myriad of characters in his One Man Lord of the Rings requires awesome physicality. He throws himself around the bare stage, groveling on the floor as the tricksy Gollum, shrinking himself as the dwarf Gimli, stretching to great heights as Galadriel in her terrible beauty. You’ll marvel at the way he conjures up a whole army of dark creatures before your very eyes. You’ll be astonished at how easily he switches voices, postures and mannerisms. You’ll laugh at his canny asides. This play will likely be incomprehensible to those who have not read the books nor seen the movies, but I’d hazard a guess that there are enough Tolkien fans out there to give this clever play the full houses it deserves.

Should council use the yet-to-be-finalized Centre Plan when debating new developments?

  • No, it doesn’t exist yet and is still likely to change
  • Yes, thousands of hours of work and consultation have gone into what’s already assembled
  • Maybe, it really depends on what’s being proposed by the developer
  • I don’t know what the Centre Plan is and do not wish to participate in this poll
