Success College

Going back to school for the Travel and Tourism Program.

Dan Jodrey
I'm a Travel Counsellor with Sears Travel

I lost the use of both my legs due to knee problems and had to get both my knees replaced—my doctor told me I had to find a new field of occupation, different from my previous carpentry skills.

I tried to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, so my wife and I decided I should go back to school. Since travel is something that I like to do, I started pursuing a career in that!

My experience at the school was really good! Kelly was one heck of a teacher, and I learned a lot—but now that I’m in the field I realize that there is still so much more to learn too.

I also worked hard and kept near the top of the class. It was challenging to stay ahead of the younger kids—I was 60—and studying was an every-night deal. I like to be above-average.

I was in sales for about 20 years, so going back to another sales career was a good choice for me, and I got to apply my education to this specific job. It’s not for everybody, but it’s a good career for those who are people-minded, who enjoy talking to other people and spend time doing their research.

I love seeing the smiles on everyone’s face when they finally hit the moment that they’re booked, and they know they’re going to have a great time!
