Re: “Incompetent little child

You had to eat spicy wings and your wife had to do without extra croutons! What horrors! How did you survive? *snort* First world problems...

Re: “To the ignorant "artist"

You do realize that Beyonce has taken "inspiration" (by which I mean plagiarized) many of her routines in the last few years from European pop/performance artists. She lifted one of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker's pieces for the video for "Countdown" and one of Lorella Cuccarini's routines for the Billboard music awards in 2010. A quick google search will confirm... Want to know something interesting about these artists that she lifted material from... they are white. How is what the student did any different than Beyonce herself? Or is it okay to be a thief if you are famous and have tons of money. Its not a race issue if the "impowering" dance routines didn't come from Beyonce herself...

Re: “Labour Board

Depends on the salon actually. One of the larger chains in the HRM uses a commission system which does not require a stylist to rent their chair. They get a good commission but only after they make a certain net profit... if they don't reach their "goal" then they end up with a very poor hourly wage. It rarely works out in the stylists favor. It is really hard on new stylists who don't have an established clientele because they have to rely on management/ receptionists to book them clients and most clients want a more advanced stylist.

Re: “Unrequited English Breakfast

Oh, I love hints Smurf! I actually think I know where this is! If its the place I'm thinking of, the OP might have actually gotten the guy in trouble. I think I worked for the establishment the guy works for, and they are super finicky about certain things, including drinks in non-company mugs. So it seems that the O.P. not only embarrassed the guy at work, she also potentially got him in trouble... Is this sounding vaguely like an episode of Glee where the Warblers visited the Gap or is it just me?

Re: “Unrequited English Breakfast

Hmm... maybe it has something to do with the fact that you are obsessive and creepy? I mean good on you for putting yourself out there but good lord woman... its been 5 months. You obviously freaked this guy out if he no longer goes into your cafe.

Fact of the matter is that you went to this poor guy's place of work and harassed him. Think of how awkward he must feel... did you do this in front of customer or other co-worders? You probably embarrassed him.

One person's cute gesture is another person's stalker present. I'm sorry that it took you two months to work up the courage to talk to the man... but you went WAY over the top. That kind of sends off alarm bells for most people that the person, although lovely I'm sure, is clingy.

He is probably afraid that you are going to spit in his drink if he goes back to your cafe, or your going to corner him again. He doesn't owe you an explanation, you don't know him and he doesn't know you. From his reaction to your gesture, that's how he likes it. I'm sorry your shy, but that doesn't mean he has to let you down in an extra special gentle way...

Re: “Not Another Smoking Bitch

I can understand in certain situations not hiring someone who smoked. Its a choice to smoke, its bad for not only the health of the smoker but everyone around them. I have worked as a supervisor in hair salons for years, and always preferred working with non-smokers. This may not be true for all smokers, but the ones I worked with... I felt I was constantly chasing them because of their "unofficial" smoke breaks. Not only would they come back smelly, but sometimes they would not come back for extended periods of time. It was enough to drive you mental.

There are scent-free environments all over the place. If I can't wear perfume, why should a smoker be allowed to come to work smelling of cigarette smoke? It sticks to your clothes and even if you never smoked in a particular area, the smell will transfer over. For example, I used to be friends with a girl who smoked and when she would get in my car, even though she never smoked inside, it would smell just as bad as if she had.

Oh and Life Sucks... I wouldn't have hired you for the cleaning position either. If the clients want a smoke free environment, they have a right to it. Its impossible to hide smoking, the smell is just to strong and it sticks around no matter how much freebreeze you use. For some people, just the smell of smoke transferred in from a smokers clothes is enough to cause serious health issues. If the environment is specified as smoke-free, then you shouldn't be surprised by not getting hired.

Re: “Slave Loving Hypocrites

I really can't believe that you never heard anything about child workers, slavery, etc. until recently. Was I the only one who went to socially conscious school? I had this information spoon fed to me from the age of 7. There are hot lists of companies that use said labour, and socially groups (like Save the Children) who work to educate the public. Even Lindsey Lohan did a documentary about it.

It sucks when you figure out that a brand that you are fond of uses business practices you don't agree with but that doesn't mean you should harass fellow customers or employees in the grocery store OP. Chances are the people you are telling either aren't socially conscious or aren't in a position to do anything about it. You however, are you in a position to do something. Educate yourself and don't buy products that come from companies that have business practices you don't agree with. Capitalism works both ways, if people don't buy a product or from a business then it will be removed from stores. The only thing you can do is be an informed consumer... throwing a tantrum in a grocery store just makes you look like a jackass.
