Stacks self-help

We hit the library to see what wisdom call number 158.1 can offer someone seeking a little self-affirmation.

Each year, I resolve to become a better Adria by making behavioural changes that I've been putting off for months (or years. Will I ever quit smoking?). I can stay motivated, but my mental attitude has a huge impact on whether I actually accomplish my goals. In 2015, I need to strengthen my positive thinking.

With that in mind, I visited the self-help section of the Halifax Central Library, under Dewey Decimal call number 158.1, in the pursuit of a positive mental attitude (PMA), like my role model, rapper Lil B the #based god.

While I don't usually buy into new-age hippie crap, many titles appealed to my skeptical side: 10 Fundamental Rules of Success (158.1 T289) compiles all the major trends of self-help literature into one handy guide. What's Stopping You? helps smart people overcome their biggest critics: themselves.

Armed with books that reinforce self-affirmation, productivity and long-term thinking, I also grabbed some pro-wrestling biographies in the Young Adult section, because I also need raw inspiration. Mixing self-help strategies (solid plans) with your most energizing passions (good examples) will help you get that #based PMA. Ditch The Secret (158.1 S445) and open You Are A Badass (158.1 S65Y) instead.
