Stabilo

Happiness and Disaster

Stabilo
Happiness and Disaster
(EMI)
Chalk this one up as nothing more than a guilty pleasure. Stabilo’s major label debut Happiness and Disaster hits the same stumbling blocks as its predecessor, the 2004 EP Cupid. Happiness and Disaster is overall a better album than Cupid, but that’s not saying much—the catchier, more hook-laden tracks are enjoyable, but Stabilo’s quieter, subdued tracks are completely generic paint-by-number pop-rock tunes that lack any sort of personality or flair. If Stabilo could just round out and strengthen its repertoire, the BC band could be a force in Canadian music. Until then, we’ll just have the settle for Happiness and Disaster.
