St. Cecilia Series' dynamic duo

Jocelyne Roy and Michelle Yelin Nam command the stage with flute and piano.

Anyone who sees Jocelyne Roy and Michelle Yelin Nam perform would probably be surprised to find out that prior to this tour they'd never worked together, let alone met each other. In 2009 Jeunesse Musicales Canada contacted Roy (a renowned flautist with the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne) with the opportunity for the collaboration, a chance she welcomed with open arms. Apart from a promotional CD they made two years ago, Roy and Nam (a solo pianist and Juilliard graduate) rehearsed on their own until coming together in January to embark on this month-long tour, but Roy says that was no problem, "We speak music together, it's kind of a language by itself. I'm learning a lot with Michelle, we talk a lot about ideas." The St. Cecilia Concert Series presents this chance to see two talented young Canadians who may never share a stage again.

Sun Feb 27, Lilian Piercey Concert Hall, 6199 Chebucto Rd, 3pm, $10-25
