Dinner theatre is not Shakespeare. It’s not even Norm Foster. But when it’s done right, it can be an amusing way to spend an evening. And with 25 years in the business, Jim Petrie knows how to do it right. Petrie’s Halifax Feast Dinner Theatre’s production of Spree (“Like Glee, only different”) is a very funny send-up of the very popular show. It helps if you are familiar with Glee (so you can appreciate things like Leah Pritchard’s spot-on parody of the deliciously dastardly Sue Sylvester) but it definitely isn’t necessary. The tight musical numbers are entertaining in themselves and the suggestive jokes and over-the-top acting produce lots of laughs. The service is swift, the food is tasty and the atmosphere is conducive to having a good time, so park your theatre snobbery at the door and go for a good time. –Kate Watson
