Spooky Campers ham it up

After a hiatus, the Campers are back with a vengeance, playing back-to-back shows this weekend including Friday's HamFest.

The Spooky Campers might as well pitch a tent at Gus' this weekend cause they'll be there for a good chunk of it. After a few months in hiatus territory, the surfy garage rockers are back and working on recording new and "poppier" EP, inspired by the likes of Cousins and Black Lips, that'll arrive in April sometime thanks to the local DIY label they've got in their corner, Strange Blood. "Whenever we sit down to write, we'll come up with three or four songs at once and might perform them a couple practices later," says the Campers' James Gaudet. "Keeping things simple like that is a really liberating experience when it comes to performing." With the back-to-back shows this weekend, new music on the horizon and a summer tour in the works, it's kind of like the Spooky Campers never left.

Friday March 2, Gus' Pub, 2605 Agricola Street, 9:30pm, $3
