Something Totally Wicked this way comes

The Totally Wicked Music Festival is back for another round of silly names and impromptu never-before-seen bands.

Back by popular demand, The Totally Wicked Music Festival is returning to the Khyber Center on April 13. The event was created in 1999, when a couple of friends decided to turn funny band names into real bands. Initially names were assigned to different people, who were then responsible for putting together a band and performing. Trick was that they only had a week to prepare. "It's a combination of rocking out and playing fun music...taking off the pressure of being a real band," says this year's festival organizer Eleanor King. Now, for the first time since 2009, the quirky and spontaneous event is back. Over the past two weeks, 20 groups have signed up, submitted silly names and formed never-before-seen bands. The "spirit is to collaborate with people you've never collaborated with before," says King, who was a participant in the original festival. The added bonus: it gives people the confidence to see themselves as musicians (even if nobody else can).

Saturday, April 13, The Khyber Centre for the Arts, 1588 Barrington Street , 10pm, $8
