Something Good does something great

Party Up In Hair brings No Flyers Please, Chad Hatcher and one of Halifax’s hip-hop favourites together for the Cancer Society.

What's in a name? A whole lot if you're Halifax hip-hop party band Something Good. That good part isn't just about the music. "The band has a mission statement that includes trying to do good things and be good people. It's about doing good things, and being good people too," says Alex Meade. "It also has to do with us playing in a hip-hop band and people often associating that with a lot of negative things, so we wanted to kind of play with that idea." And so became their Good Deeds series, starting with last year's Players' Ball, for the Dartmouth Boys and Girls Club. Taking a cue from the band's drummer Jordan Oakie, who recently shaved off his long, luscious locks, comes Party Up In Hair, Saturday's show where Something Good and friends will be taking donations of hair and dollars for the Canadian Cancer Society, a cause close to home for the entire band. They say one good deed deserves another, so that makes it your turn to do something good.

Sat Jan 21, The Seahorse, 1665 Argyle Street, $8 before 10pm/$10
